2024 Ministry Highlights
Sustainability has been one of our top goals this past year, and closing out the year, we can say that we are making it with your support!
The Spirit of God has moved through us and provided for us for five years and we expect for many more to come. We have loads of gifts and talents, and more people joining us who want to be a part of our church in active ministry who are bringing new gifts and talents and ideas for ministries.
Park Safety Improvements to End Gun Violence
This Fall, Juniper Formation UCC's Rev. Dr. Jenny Whitcher organized neighbors and collaborated with city officials to address a long-time gun violence hotspot in Southwest Denver. Join us this Saturday, 11/23/24, from 10:00 - 11:30 am, with the collaboration of leaders who are hosting a tour of the area to share our story with the wider community. Featured speakers include District 3 City Councilwoman Jamie Torres, Denver Police Department representatives, and Denver Parks and Recreation leadership. Our organizing has focused on building relationships, improving infrastructure, and creating an inhospitable environment for gun violence..
Jesus didn’t “agree to disagree”
Jesus was highly political and a polarizing figure. He did not "agree to disagree" on social norms, laws, or religious and political leadership that caused harm to marginalized people. He spoke prophetically, telling the truth about God's unconditional love, forgiveness, care, and regard for diverse people.
What are you doing here, prophet?
The problem with a fascist dictator is that they don't care who they hurt or kill for power. Like Elijah who wrestled with violence, none of these loud, aggressive, destructive experiences contained the voice of God. Instead, may we continue in ministry—loving one another generously, seeking justice for all.

A Different Way of Being Church
Read the journey of Rev. Dr. Jenny Whitcher (she/her), an unexpected church planter and pastor. In this story, she shares her profound experience with Juniper Formation and how our community is dedicated to cocreating Church and embracing a freer, more authentic faith community by shedding the "shoulds" of institutional church and following the guidance of the Holy Spirit.
Stories of Faithful Resonance
Over the coming weeks, we’ll share stories from a few members of the Juniper Formation Leadership Team as a way to invite you in to get to know us and Juniper Formation. We reflect on our identities and faith as they collide with the realities of the world—our churches, workplaces, schools, public and political spaces, families, and communities. Being church together is something quite unique, and also, there are many aspects of these relationships that can easily be translated across institutions from all sectors.
God’s Intervening Miracles Amidst Grief ✨
Hello! It has been too long since I’ve written, and I have missed you. The past several months of my life align with this Advent season of grief awaiting God’s intervening miracles, as we’ve passed over 800,000 COVID deaths this past week and may be choosing not to gather with loved ones this Christmas out of safety…
The Lingering Implications of Christ's Birth: A Christmas Day Reflection
Our Christmas day reflection is offered by Minister Javon Bracy, Juniper Formation Leadership Team and Spiritual Well Ministry Team member. Minister Bracy reflects on the lingering implications of Christ's birth.
Courageous Love
In order to love like God loves and as children of the one who “sits on David’s throne,” I believe that we were made to be courageous. We were made to be the ones that “seek justice, love mercy, and walk humbly with your God”(Micah 6:8). This can only be achieved by looking at all things through the lens of love and modeling our life after Christ.
Revealing Hope
Hope is a direction. It is the moment we see what is possible and what is probable. It is equal parts imagination, adventure, and determination. It is seeing a great light, but also following it.
Sermon: Abiding in the Creator's Womb, Part 1
“Regardless of the Christian Church’s theological meaning making of this particular claim Jesus makes [that “Those who eat my flesh and drink my blood have eternal life”], this passage still remains viscerally…unappetizing. But haven’t we have all had this kind of visceral experience: in our mother’s womb.”Reflections on John 6:51-58 and Dr. Astrid Lobo Garjiwala’s essay, “The Passion of the Womb: Women Re-Living the Eucharist,” published in the book, The Strength of Her Witness: Jesus Christ in the Global Voices of Women, edited by Elizabeth A. Johnson.
